Hi, my name is Shoina and I am going to write a blog. Why? Because it is something I have never undertaken before, not sure if that is a good enough reason, but why not. I have a strong belief that everyone can go out and try something new that is out of their comfort zone, so currently this is mine.
Many people are put off from trying something new, to be imaginative or creative, or begin something they might not finish for fear of looking silly or need to seek approval from those closest to them.
Before I move on let me give you my all-time favourite quote which is something I live by, “life is not a dress rehearsal” my take on this? Live your life, as we only get one shot at it. How very true!
I am 57 years young (I certainly feel and act much younger I think), married for 37 years with two adult children and live in Perth, Scotland. I am one of seven children that probably was the foundation to my independent nature and the ethos of working hard for everything. I am a glass half full type of person with an outrageous sense of humour, which sometimes gets me in trouble and goes over the heads of some.
Over the years I have tried many new things, from the ordinary to the adventurous, creative and imaginative and of course I failed at some. Did the sky fall on my head, did I feel silly or humiliated or did I hurt anyone? The answer is no, I survived to tell the tale. This is life’s experience, you learn from them and who knows it could change your life in some way. One thing I have learned… things do not fall into our lap, we must work at it just like life itself. I always feel a sense of achievement when trying new things, even though it has not shaken or changed the world, at least I gave it my best shot and tried.
I get bored quickly and always seeking variety, maybe a bit of adventure or excitement but also something that will make me feel good about myself. This does not need to be complicated. It could be anything simple, like trying a new hobby, educational or a new career path. While you are experimenting, people can be cruel though and seem to want to share their opinions with you, I get it all the time. The usual is “what are you up to now?” Or you are mad, aff yer heid (Scottish Slang), why are you doing that; that’s weird. It’s funny how people think it is okay to say these things, just because it doesn’t fit with what or how they see life.
It’s all right being different. We can’t all like the same things or be the same. If we were, life would be very boring. I want to try and experience life while I can. Do I really need approval or others opinions? No, so my reply to negativity… I am just living the life! Negativity can breed bad feeling so accept people for who they are, and live your life the way you want. Do not settle for anything less. You can achieve your dreams if you put your mind to it, so go ahead and try. It would be a waste if you did not find your own potential.
